Sammy was a good-looking young boy who lived in the deep south. His summer days were filled with times of walking through the woods, playing with friends, and fishing in the pond down the dirt road. Fishing was by far his favorite thing to do. Just about every day during his summer vacation, he would dig up some worms and head off, pole in hand, for a day of fishing.

This steamy hot day was like most others during Sammy’s summer break. Waking early, he could hear as though the pond was calling him to come fish. Sammy quietly walked out the front door, grabbed his pitchfork and worm pail from the porch, and walked into the woods to search for bait. He turned over old stumps and dug under leaves hoping to find worms. Under one old stump he hit the jackpot. The ground was writhing. In two minutes he had all the bait he needed, and in 15 minutes he was at the pond.

Reaching into his bait bucket, Sammy pulled out a big worm. He double hooked it and tossed it into the water. He noticed a stinging in his hand, but filled with the excitement of the moment, he paid no attention to it. Within 30 seconds, Sammy had a strike and pulled in a nice catfish. Wow, he thought, a fish in the first minute. This is unbelievable!

He put the catch on his stringer, hurried to re-bait his hook, and tried his luck again. Once again he felt a stinging sensation in his hand as he threw his hook into the pond. He didn’t have time to worry about it. Within just a few seconds, he had another huge fish. He fumbled the next time he baited his hook–his hand felt numb and stiff. But Sammy was too excited about catching another fish to give it much thought.

It is Allah Almighty who is the Emperor of all emperors on this earth.

Once King Akbar was riding his horse in the countryside of Agra, he felt hungry and asked a peasant for some food. The peasant believing him to be an ordinary traveler brought some food and cold water and did his best to make his stay in the house comfortable.

When the mighty Emperor was refreshed and was ready to leave, he told the villager: “My good man, I am the Emperor of India. If you are ever in need of any assistance, please come to my palace in Agra without any hesitation. I am pleased by your hospitality and will be glad to be of help to you in every way I can.”

After some time, the villager fell on hard times. Famine had set in his village and food was hard to find. There was no work for the farmers. The villager remembered the words of the Emperor; he decided to go to Agra and asked for an interview with the Great Mughal King Akbar.

Hazrat Luqman (Alayhi Salaam) was once requested by his master to slaughter a sheep and then bring to him its two best organs. Luqman (Alayhi Salaam) complied with his master’s request, slaughtered the sheep and the two best organs he brought were the heart and the tongue.

Once again his master requested him to slaughter another sheep but that this time he should bring to him the worst organs. Luqman (Alayhi Salaam) for the second time slaughtered another sheep. Strangely he again brought the same two parts, viz. the heart and the tongue. Quite amazed his master exclaimed: “On both request you brought the same two parts. How can the heart and the tongue be the best as well as the worst?”

Luqman (Alayhi Salaam) replied: “O my master, if the heart and the tongue are straight and in order, then there can be no organ of the body better than them. However if they are corrupted then there can be no organ worse than them.”

(Tulaba ke liye Tarbiyati Waqiaat, pg. 91)

Lesson: Guard the tongue and keep the heart clean at all times.

According to Shaikh Aarif Abu Turaab Bakhshni (rahmatullahi alayh) when the heart of a man turns away from Allah Ta`ala in consequence of his addiction to disobedience and transgression, he makes the Auliyaa a target for criticism. He denies and ridicules them. (This is a sign of Allah’s curse on such a person).

Shaikh Aarif Abul Fawaaris Shah Bin Shujaa Kirmaani (rahmatullahi alayh) said that there is no Ibaadat better than love for the Auliyaa of Allah Ta`ala. Love for the Auliyaa is a sign of love for Allah Ta`ala. (This is based on the Hadith: “Good Suhbat (i.e. companionship of the Auliyaa) is better than good deeds.”)
